Communication Class 9

This was one of the worst classes I have had this year. Not only did I have trouble hearing what our task was from the lecturers because of all the talking but our group proved to be relatively lazy today. We had the task of problem solving for selling our product to 10 customers for 50% off, or to go with one customer who would pay for 30% more than retail price. Then we would all make a rating scale on how much we agreed or disagreed to a one of the scenarios. This proved difficult to get everyone to do there part as most people slacked off and I only feel as if Bin and I did most of the work. This made for a pretty bad presentation as some of our slides where being added to during other peoples presentations and I had no idea of these changes, this really annoyed me and ruined our entire presentation. However out of all of this I did learn about customer loyalty and sticking to our promise which in the long term would be more beneficial for future business with customers.

Communication Class 8

For this class we had to create a customer service plan for clients who are interested in our product. I had trouble for the first part of the morning class since everybody keeps talking it proves hard to stay concentrated and hear what the lecturer is saying. Getting information on good customer service proved relatively easy to find information on and we gathered ample information for our presentation. It also helped that a couple of our group members where away sick which meant it was easier to allow everyone to acquire the information they required. Finding information on customer service has proved useful as I have learnt how to better treat customers and how to keep them informed on our product. All in all the smaller group made for a better presentation and better productivity for finding the correct information.

Communication Class 5

Last Wednesday was another problem solving class for communications. We had to create a health and safety management plan for our company. This proved useful as I learnt much about the HSE and the different rules and regulations that they have, I do feel as if some of the rules are necessary, for example you have to report all accidents for OSH, but what if its just a small accident its not worth reporting in my opinion. But these rules wouldnt be in place for no reason. I found it challenging getting enough points together to create a good HSE management plan together and I felt that this made my part of the presentation to short as there was not enough to talk about. Then we had the problem that two of our group members dont seem to contribute all that much to the presentations and research, which this reflects in the presentations and makes the entire presentation seem poor.

Communication class 7

For this class we had talk about the sustainability of our product, this included energy consumption, waste products of the material, recycling and the list went on. For this I had to research governance which was laws protecting the environment. This proved very hard as there was little laws that could be related to our product, I did manage to find some information on our product which I was happy about, but when the rest of the group had finished looking up their parts of the presentation and I asked for help everyone refused to help even though they where doing nothing else which really annoyed me. Then we had the problem that after we created the power point presentation we could not find when it came time to do our presentation. This means we have to do two presentations next week which i am not looking forward to as I do not like public speaking, but it has to be done. However after all these problems I did learn a fair bit about sustainability of our product and sustainability of other groups products which was useful to know was it shows that there can be so much to do inorder to make a product sustainable.

Communication Class 6

For this class we had to look up reputable membership organisations that relate to our project which is the pre-heated catalytic converter. For our presentation we picked SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) to associate ourselves with and talk about the pros and cons of our association with this organisation. Our research went very well into looking up the pros and cons of our association except for the fact that Mike in our group does nothing to help with the research and when it comes to present he makes our group look bad as he has little to say as he does not understand what he is talking about. Apart from this I am happy with our presentation and I have learnt a lot about membership based organisations and how they can help to improve business and customer satisfaction which will be useful for the future.

Communication Class 4

Our class on wednesday was a referencing class, this is where we learnt to reference properly. This was a useful class as i did not know how to correctly reference for uni assignments. However there was so much to try and take in and so many ways to reference I am unsure whether I will fully understand how to reference properly until I get my first assignment back. The referencing example sheets that we where given will prove useful when it comes to practising how to do correct referencing and overall I enjoyed the day as I learnt this most valuable skill for my assignments.

Communications Class 3

Today we had to our first presentation for the group project "our finite world" we had plenty of time to do this, but coming up with an idea was hard and it took us about an hour to come up with and eco friendly idea that was unique. I did start getting a bit annoyed that a couple of people in our group were not putting in much work,  but we eventually got an idea. When we had to do our presentation it did not start out very well as the couple of group members that where messing around before did not know what they where talking about, but the second half of the presentation was excellent. I was surprised that when it came time for me to present that I wasn't as nervous as I normally get in those situations of talking in front of a crowd, as normally I stumble on words and am quite shaky in body movement and body language. Our communication plan was excellent according to our tutor which made me feel even better, so all in all I was happy with our presentation.

Communications Class 2

Last Wednesday was our second class for communications classes, for this lesson we got a lot more information on what to do for our assignments that are due. This helps ease most of the concern that I previously had, since I felt as if I was being left in the dark a bit. Now that I have been given an essay structure to help guide me in the right direction I feel as if the assignments are now much more achievable. Basically I feel much more relief as I now have settled into uni again, and I am currently making a timetable to help allocate times to work on each of my assignments, this helps to make the assignments feel more achievable than what they seemed at the start of the courses. And I now feel confident that I can pass these assignments with good grades.

Integrated Practice Class 1

Wednesday was the first day for integrated practice or communication classes, it seems quite daunting the amount of work that I have a head of myself this year with all the assignments that are required to be completed from this course and the two other courses I'm doing this semester. There has been so much information given to us about the courses that I'm muddling up assignments with courses or simply forgetting stuff all together, but I'm sure that after a couple of weeks I will get the hang of things and all this information won't seem so daunting anymore.  I have yet to figure out any good original ideas for our first assignment of "Our Finite World" but there is an ocean ideas out there just waiting to explored so this is a good thing as it gives many different possibilities that can be used for the project and with the help of my group I'm sure we can think up something which is new and innovative. I hope to complete all the assignments with good grades and a good understanding of what I have been taught.
